Acer
TravelMate 8481 lands late August, £700 price tag in UK
The
Acer TravelMate 8481, looks like a
pretty nice piece of hardware. In last May Acer was touting a mid-June launch,
but we've just get information that the Core i7-packing
notebook won't make it into carry-on until late August. And here we want to inform you the details of
Acer TravelMate 8481.
The Acer TravelMate 8481 offers up a 14 inch
LCD display, showing at 1366 x 768 resolutions. NVIDIA graphics are present
and, thanks to the Optimus graphics switching technology, the discrete GPU
automatically takes over for the CPU's built-in HD 3000 whenever needed, Acer
made sure that 8 GB of RAM are available to support intensive tasks, while
storage space is provided by either a hard disk drive (320 GB) or a solid state
drive (64 GB), several connectivity options: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Gigabit
Ethernet, and a USB 3.0 port, Wireless Display systems to put your images up on
bigger screens without need for extra cables, and dimensions clearly built for travel.
The weighs only a meager 3.306 pounds, meaning you’ll be able to carry this
around most anywhere and scarcely notice.
The down side, of course, is that this lovely
little laptop will only be hitting the UK first, for 699 pounds sterling plus
taxes. It sounds like a great laptop, especially for the many road warriors out
there who love to pack up their hardware and go enjoy a day of working
elsewhere with free Wi-Fi. A little on the pricey side, though, considering
what else is out there, but with plenty of redeeming features to make it very
much worthwhile. All the hardware is packed inside a magnesium-aluminum frame
with an anti-shock mechanism for the HDD, plus dust protection and metal
hinges.
