Ouya gaming console, making $950k in less than 12 hours
Nowadays, games might have been a
secondary need for people. It is proven from the fact that companies are
offering products that supports for gaming or even specialized for doing that
and enthusiasm from the market on the products. One of them is Ouya gaming
console from Yves Behar, who is considered world’s 7 most important people in
design.
The Ouya is a game console that is based
on Android. Surprisingly, the sale of gaming console is able to reach its lofty
funding goal of $950,000 on Kickstarter in a surprisingly short time, less than
12 hours. As we know, the Ouya is offered at $99 for its pack which includes a
Tegra 3 CPU, 8 GB of storage capacity and 802.11n WiFi, as well as Bluetooth
4.0. In addition, there are a USB 2.0 port and an SD card slot. The 1000 early
adopters got a price cut of $4 that it became $95 – the buyers also get a
single controller with a touch screen for the price with a cut, like the
1000-excluded early buyers.
Such a great achievement might be thanks
in parts to, the most notable from the system, its state of being extremely
friendly to developers. The system offers open hardware and software with a
push for free-to-play content. Now, the game console has been only 5,000 units
left with the price of $99, excluding the 1000 units.
This situation seems to reflect that such
business model, the traditional one, for gaming consoles got rocked. Ouya
gaming consoles listed a fast sale as it was confirmed by Kickstarter that the
system, Ouya, achieved the biggest first day ever for one of its projects. With
this, it is just the eighth project ever to break the million-dollar mark,
making it equal to Double Fine’s upcoming adventure game, as well as the Pebble
smartwatch.
