OCZ unveiling Synapse Cache Series SSDs-OCZ has released a new series of SSDs called Synapse Cache so you don't have to suffer the speed limitations inherent in spinning disk storage. This announcement is a bit different from normal SSD announcements since OCZ will be bundling Dataplex caching software with these SSDs, hence the "Cache" in the series name. These 2.5-inch, 6 GB/s SATA drives come in 64 and 128GB flavors, and does the dual drive dance with your HDD of choice using the firms' Dataplex caching software.
The OCZ Synapse Series integrates Dataplex™ caching software to dynamically manage the use of both SSD and HDD for superior overall storage performance. This combination creates an environment where the most frequently used "hot" data stays on the ultra-fast SSD; while the "cold" data remains on the larger capacity HDD (sold separately). Advanced caching algorithms learn user behavior and adapt storage policies to ensure optimal performance for each individual user, maximizing productivity for the most demanded programs and applications. Synapse Series integrates seamlessly within any modern PC platform, ensuring optimal compatibility along with performance gains and comes backed by a 3-year warranty. OCZ is claiming immediate availability but none of the biggest retailers have Synapse listed as of today.

Capacities are limited to 64GB and 128GB, but there is 50% overprovision, meaning that only 32GB and 64GB will be usable. It wouldn't make much sense to use a bigger SSD for caching though, and Intel is limiting their Smart Response Technology to 64GB as well. There are no information about when and the price tag.
